Diane was one of the first strangers to submit to this project. After somehow getting a copy of Don’t Make Art, Just Make Something, she sent me this message and picture from her home in Washington State.
“My mother was a master carver and while I am primarily a painter and printmaker, I ended up carving as well. I do love the purposeful carving marks I leave on my lino block prints. Here is a carving of a Northwest American Indian sisiutl which I designed and carved for my new home on Whidbey Island. I carved and painted on and off for 3 years to complete this. It is about 8 feet long and 3 feet high and consists of 8 separate pieces. I have hung it over the cabinets in my kitchen where the ceiling is 15 feet high.”
