Beverly Artist Spotlight: March 2019

The Beverly Artist Spotlight, presented by Miranda’s Hearth at Waring Downtown in The Cabot, continues with its second exhibition featuring Scott Mulcahey and Konrad Ellis from March 7- April 18, 2019. This new series features rotating six week exhibitions that pair a local, professional artist with a student artist from the Waring School to create a visual pipeline from student to professional.

Scott Mulcahey, known around Beverly as ‘The Chair Guy,’ will be displaying chairs that he’s made over the past dozen years in a reflection on his career so far. He has been a woodworker and resident in Beverly for most of his life.

The chairs are constructed with through mortise and tenon joinery. Many of they are made out of recycled wood that Mulcahey finds at the beach, in the woods, at old barn demos or antique house renovations.

His work is paired with Konrad Ellis, a senior at the Waring School who specializes in photography:

“My father is a photographer and art teacher, so I have grown up around the medium I currently choose to pursue. I started taking photography at Waring in my Junior year. I love creating a piece of art by capturing everyday moments and objects in different lights. I have grown to appreciate the elegance of the process and the beauty of a dying art. ”

– Konrad Ellis

There will be an opening for the show on Thursday, April 6 from 6:00-8:00 pm. All are welcome to come and enjoy the pieces! Mulcahey’s work is for sale. He has agreed to donate 25% of each sale to Miranda’s Hearth as they pursue writing a proposal to repurpose Briscoe Middle School as a cultural community center.

Stop by Waring Downtown any day of the week to see the artwork in the window, or join Miranda’s Hearth for the weekly Hearth Community Night every Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm.
