DANIEL CALLAHAN

Multimedia Artist & Designer

Speaker at IGNITE: A conference for creative community builders on Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Lesley University Hall in Porter Square!

Daniel Callahan is a multimedia artist and designer. His work merges various disciplines including but not limited to painting, music, video, drawing, collage, graphic design, photography, and performance to create immersive experiences that seek to reveal the inner humanity that links us to each other and our world.

Best known for his MassQ work which uses ritualistic painting and the human face as canvas to create living works of art that reveal rather than conceal, Daniel and his work have been featured in arts institutions such as the ICA, MFA, Queens Museum, MassArt and the RCC as well as publications such as the Bay State Banner, Words Beats and Life Journal of Hip Hop and Believer magazine.

Daniel is a graduate of the UPenn school of design where he received the fine arts chair award, a current MFA candidate for film and video at Emerson College where he received a full fellowship, and a recipient of both the Donor Circle of the Arts and NEFA Creative City grants.

Daniel explains why community is important:

Community is important because it is the vehicle that allows us to be human and to live our lives to their fullest potential. A community to me is a group of people living intentionally for and with each other, and on this is the basis of all human life, history and potentiality. Nothing is realized, changed or improved before we are, and we cannot be realized changed or improved without each other. The African concept of Ubuntu perhaps says it best; “I am because we are”.
