Now that winter is finally over in Boston, it’s time to deal with the aftermath: potholes.
I have to admit, I don’t spend much of my time thinking about city infrastructure. But when you pass several deep potholes on your way to work every morning, it starts to become more apparent that the way we currently maintain our roads just doesn’t work.
Asphalt roads only last about seven to ten years, which is not a great lifespan for something that covers so much of the country. And, according to the creators of Solar Roadways, “in the U.S., over $160 billion is lost each year in lost productivity from people sitting in traffic due to road maintenance.”
Solar Roadways is a company whose “long range goal is to cover all concrete and asphalt surfaces that are exposed to the sun with Solar Road Panels. This will lead to the end of our dependency on fossil fuels of any kind.”
They’re currently doing an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for more and more solar panel roads:
I hope this works, because I want them once we get the actually building for Miranda’s Hearth!
